AFL has unveiled the FuseConnect MPO -- a fusion-spliced, field-terminated connector designed with only six components -- as the latest member of its FuseConnect series. The MPO connector features a factory pre-polished ferrule that obviates the need for polishing, adhesives, and crimping in the field and reduces connection errors, AFL says.

Juniper Networks (NYSE: JNPR) has unveiled a switch fabric upgrade to existing MX Series chassis that will boost switching capacity to 3.8 Tbps. The systems vendor says the new capability enables the largest capacity within the edge router niche.

Transmode has announced it will offer 100-Gbps capabilities on its metro and regional TM-Series systems based on dual-polarization quadrature phase-shift keying (DP-QPSK) with coherent detection. The systems should be ready for customer trials early next year, with deployments to follow by mid-year, according to Transmode.

RED-C Optical Networks Ltd. has unveiled a variety of high-density EDFA packages for integration in ROADM line cards. It also has announced a four-pump hybrid Raman-EDFA module that it says enables dynamic path reconfiguration.

Cisco (NASDAQ: CSCO) says that Virgin Media of the UK is using the system house’s uBR10K Universal Broadband Router and Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) in a roll out of DOCSIS 3.0 technology. The company adds that Virgin Media has run a trial of the technology in East London in which it hit broadband speeds of 1.5 Gbps using Cisco's (3G60) Broadband Processing Engine, a line card for the uBR10K.
