Zhone Technologies releases MXK 1U GPON OLTs

Zhone Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:ZHNE) has announced immediate availability of the MXK 194 and MXK 198 platforms, new 1U form-factor GPON Optical Line Terminal (OLTs) for small to mid-scale deployments.

Infinera debuts DTN-X packet-optical transport platform with 500G PIC, OTN/MPLS support

A new photonic integrated circuit (PIC) deserves a new platform, apparently. Infinera (NASDAQ: INFN) unveiled today the DTN-X packet-optical transport platform, which serves as the first implementation of the company’s much discussed 500-Gbps photonic integrated circuit (PIC). The DTN-X is Infinera’s response to the IP/optical convergence debate. However, rather than requiring carriers to choose between Optical Transport Network (OTN) and Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) for transport control, the DTN-X is designed to support both – OTN now and MPLS in the future.

Juniper details progress on PTX Packet Transport Switch, 100GbE

Six months after unveiling the PTX Packet Transport Switch at OFC/NFOEC this past March, a source at Juniper Networks (NYSE: JNPR) says the product is well on its way towards initial deliveries in the first quarter of next year. The system will be part of an increase in the number of Juniper Network platforms with 100-Gigabit Ethernet (100GbE) capabilities.

UPC cablecom chooses Transmode for switched video transport

Transmode has announced that Swiss cable-TV operator upc cablecom is the first customer for its switched video transport offering. The Swedish systems house says upc cablecom, part of Liberty Global Europe's UPC Broadband division, chose Transmode's approach for its ability to optimize multicast traffic in light of the growing popularity of HDTV.

Prysmian offers LT20 BBXS loose tube cable with bend-insensitive fiber

Prysmian Group, leveraging the assets it acquired from Draka, has unveiled the LT20 BBXS, a loose tube outside plant fiber cable that leverages BendBrightXS bend-insensitive fiber to offer up to a 19% reduction in diameter and up to 30% reduction in weight compared with more conventional approaches, Prsymian asserts.
