IPG Photonics Corp. (NASDAQ: IPGP) says it has expanded its optical amplification and transmission portfolio aimed at non-repeatered ultra-long haul communication links in DWDM, electrical power utility, transportation, pipeline and other demanding applications. IPG develops and manufactures specialty components used in the optical amplification portfolio, including semiconductor diodes, active fibers, and other high-power components.

GigOptix, Inc. (OTCQX:GGOX) says it has scored a major design win with a Tier 1 systems customer, which has booked a $1.8 million purchase order for the vendor’s 100G Mach-Zehnder modulator (MZM) quad-driver. The customer, whose identity GigOptix did not reveal, will receive a customized version of the GX62451 for use in a 100G DWDM networking system.

IPtronics A/S, a developer of silicon for parallel optical interconnects, says it has demonstrated 4x25-Gbps operation of silicon optimized for 25- to 28-Gbps applications. The TIA/VCSEL driver chipset is the first in a row of dedicated devices for low-power, high-volume parallel optical interconnects primarily focused at computer communications.
