Optical components vendor Oclaro, Inc. (NASDAQ: OCLR) has introduced what it claims is the industry’s first family of amplifiers aimed at offsetting losses inside the nodes of next-generation ROADM network architectures that will carry 100 Gbps, 400 Gbps, and 1 Tbps channels.

JDSU (NASDAQ: JDSU and TSX: JDU) says its 8500 series 40-Gbps coherent DP-QPSK transponder is now available for sampling. The module leverages coherent processing technology from ClariPhy Communications, which supplied similar technology to Oclaro for its MI 5000XM 40G coherent modules (see “ClariPhy, Oclaro tout 40-Gbps coherent”).

Optical module vendor OE Solutions and Dutch technology services company AimValley have announced the Smart SFP, which features integrated operations, administration, and maintenance (OAM) functions within the transceiver. The Smart SFP is the first publicly released product derived from a collaboration between the two companies announced this past December (see “OE Solutions, AimValley partner for optical transceiver development”).

Avago Technologies (NASDAQ: AVGO) has unveiled a pair of QSFP+ optical transceiver modules that offer interoperability with fielded SFP+ modules. The new pluggable, parallel optical QSFP+ eSR4 transceiver can address both 40 Gigabit and 10 Gigabit Ethernet applications with a verified link distance of 400 m. Meanwhile, the QSFP+ iSR4 modules enable interoperability to 10G SFP+ links up to 100 m using OM3 multimode fiber (MMF) and 150 m using OM4 MMF
