LONDON – Engineers from IBM Corp. have developed a prototype parallel optical transceiver that can transfer data at a rate of one terabit per second. The optical chipset is due to be reported at the Optical Fiber Communication Conference taking place in Los Angeles, Calif.

Mindspeed Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:MSPD) has introduced the M02150 burst-mode driver chipset family for next-generation GPON (XG-PON1) networks. The chipset features a programmable 3.1-Gbps dual-closed-loop burst mode laser driver integrated with an 11.3-Gbps limiting amplifier. The company said,the chipset features power-saving sleep and current reduction modes in a 4x4-mm package.
