Vitesse & JDSU demo EDC enabled 100km-reach DWDM connects to 10GBASE-ZR SFP+ transceivers

March 7, 2012

In Corporate Village room 2157 at the Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exhibition/National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference (OFC/NFOEC 2012) in Los Angeles (6-8 March), Vitesse Semiconductor Corp of Camarillo, CA, USA (which designs and develops ICs for carrier and enterprise networks) is pairing its quad-channel VSC8248 electronic dispersion compensation (EDC) and clock & data recovery (CDR) device with SFP+ 10GBASE-ZR DWDM modules made by JDSU of Milpitas, CA, USA to demonstrate 10Gbps DWDM links beyond 100km (exceeding the 80km standard for 10GBASE-ZR applications).

Finisar Launches Leading-Edge 100G Modules for Telecom Networks at OFC/NFOEC 2012

March 6, 2012

Finisar Corporation (NASDAQ: FNSR - News) today launched  two new 100G modules -- a 100G Coherent OIF Transponder and a 100G DWDM CFP with SpectraWave™, an all-optical DWDM transport platform. Finisar's modules bring new cost economies and power efficiencies to telecom networks by leveraging critical vertical integration capabilities and established expertise in 100G technology. The new modules will be on display at OFC/NFOEC in Finisar's booth #1703 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, March 6-8, 2012

Sales of Optical components and modules Increased by 7% in 2011, Despite a Slow Start Early in the Year

March 6, 2012

Sales of optical components and modules increased by 7% in 2011, after spiking by 36% in 2010. Very high growth of this market in 2010, followed by a slowdown in early 2011, raised concerns of a potential market bubble among investors. However, sales of many products ramped up nicely in the second half of 2011, pulling the overall market back into positive territory.

Avago modules interoperable between 40G QSFP+ and 10G SFP+ components verified link distance of 400m

March 6, 2012

Avago Technologies has launched fiber-optic modules that enable more efficient switching and greater bandwidth in data centers. The pluggable, parallel optical QSFP+ eSR4 transceiver is claimed to be the first module that can address both 40 Gigabit and 10 Gigabit Ethernet applications with a verified link distance of 400m. This gives data-center operators the flexibility to reuse the current 10G wired infrastructure when upgrading to 40G, providing major cost savings, it is claimed. The modules integrate four 10G lanes in each direction to increase bandwidth within a line-card more than three-fold while using 50% less power than that of a one-lane SFP+ module.

Opnext High Speed Technology Leadership Highlighted in OFC/NFOEC 2012

March 6, 2012

Opnext, Inc. (NASDAQ: OPXT) is a global leader in high speed optical technology, will be reinforcing its technology leadership through its participation in the Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exposition and the National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference (OFC/NFOEC) being held March 6th through the 8th in Los Angeles, California

Fiber-Optic Chip Increases Speed & Cuts Energy Costs

March 6, 2012

The Photonic Service Engine (PSE), a new chip for fiber-optic networks that Alcatel-Lucent says offers double the capacity and four times the speed, will make its debut this week in Booth 738 at the OFC/NFOEC Conference in Los Angeles.
