The 10X10 MSA has added to its potential portfolio of 100-Gbps optical modules with the announcement of specifications for 10-km and 40-km reach. The MSA, inspired by Google’s desire for what it perceived as a lower-cost, more readily available alternative to the IEEE 802.3ba’s 100GBase-LR4 specification, has already released specifications for a 2-km optical module in a CFP form factor (see “10X10 MSA ratifies 100-Gbps module specification”).

NeoPhotonics Corp. (NYSE NPTN) says it is sampling its first extended-each XG-PON1 XFP optical transceiver module for 10G GPON applications. The company also asserts it has tripled capacity for its current OLT transceivers over the last year to help satisfy demand from fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) deployments in Asia and North America.

Gigalight has added a 120-km DWDM/TDM XFP Module to its portfolio of 10-Gbps long distance products. The new XFP leverages electronic dispersion compensation (EDC) technology to provide dispersion tolerance up to 2400 ps/nm. The module thus supports a transmission distance of up to 120 km at 10 Gbps without additional dispersion compensating fiber, states Gigalight.
