Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center chooses Zayo to develop optical network for federal research

Zayo has entered into a new multi-year agreement with the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center (PSC), a computing and networking center. PSC can support the growing bandwidth needs of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA), located in Fairmont, WV, with the optical network infrastructure Zayo will supply under terms of the agreement.

Omnitron designs tiny media converter

Omnitron Systems, a provider of fiber optic access systems for next-generation Ethernet networks, announced the launch of the miConverter S-Series, the smallest media converters available, according to Omnitron. The miConverter S-Series weighs less than 2.5 oz. (72g) and is about the length of a standard house key. It provides Gigabit and Fast Ethernet fiber to 10/100/1000BASE-T media conversion, and is designed for lightweight and compact mobile applications.

OneCommunity deploys Fujitsu packet optical networking platforms

OneCommunity, a Northeast Ohio non-profit organization focused on broadband access and adoption, has deployed the Fujitsu FLASHWAVE 9500 Packet Optical Networking Platform (ONP) and FLASHWAVE 7120 Micro Packet Optical Networking platform as part of a $70 million optical network project. The project, which leverages $44.8 million in broadband stimulus money, includes a 1,000-mile-long open access fiber-optic network designed to extend high-bandwidth connectivity to 24 counties in Northern Ohio.
