Polish Telecom to deploy Cisco CRS-3

Cisco (NASDAQ:CSCO) says that Polish Telecom (Telekomunikacja Polska, or TP Group) will deploy the systems supplier’s Cisco CRS-3 Carrier Routing System and Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers as part of an optical network upgrade.

Berkeley Lab to build prototype scientific network

SURFnet taps Ciena

Ciena Corp. (NASDAQ:CIEN) and SURFnet, which oversees the national research and education network of the Netherlands, will collaborate on SURFnet7, an optical network upgrade that will add enhanced Ethernet capabilities to the research network. Ciena will supply both Carrier Ethernet switches and its OneControl Unified Management System as part of the upgrade.

New World Telecom preps for Photonic Service Switch

Hong Kong communications service provider New World Telecom will deploy systems from Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext and NYSE:ALU) that will enable it to support 10-, 40-, and 100-Gbps traffic on the same fiber pair. Alcatel-Lucent’s 1830 Photonic Service Switch will be the lynchpin of the new 100-Gbps optical network capabilities.
