Telehouse America, Sidera Networks to provide low-latency connections to customers

Romanian Educational Network chooses Ciena, Felix Telecom for 100-Gigabit Ethernet

The Romanian Educational Network (RoEduNet) has upgraded the Ciena (NASDAQ:CIEN) 6500 Packet-Optical Platforms and Common Photonic Layer systems in its fiber-optic network to increase capacity to accommodate 100-Gigabit Ethernet (100GbE) traffic. Ciena will deploy the upgrade with its BizConnect partner Felix Telecom.

Window for 40-Gbps deployment still open

Panelists in a Lightwave webcast July 14 agreed that the advent of comparatively economical 100-Gbps technology will affect the demand for 40-Gbps in carrier optical networks. However, they also agreed that it would be two years – at least – before such 100G systems are available. Given carrier capital expenditure constraints, the intervening two or more years should provide plenty of opportunity for 40-Gbps sales, they concluded.

LightBound deploys Infinera ATN

Infinera (NASDAQ:INFN) has claimed another standalone win for its ATN regional/metro platform (see "Infinera debuts ATN metro platform"). The systems house says that Indianapolis-based regional service provider LightBound LLC has deployed ATN systems as part of an extension of its fiber-optic network in Indiana. The deployment is significant in that LightBound plans to upgrade its ATN systems with capabilities recently made available in Release 3.0, according to an Infinera source.

Telefonica chooses Telco Systems Metro Ethernet products for Argentina’s Tecnopolis Theme Park

Telco Systems says that its Ethernet demarcation and aggregation products were selected by Telefónica Argentina to create the telecommunications network for the Tecnópolis theme park which opened on July 15 in Villa Martelli, near Buenos Aires.  The 124-acre (50 hectares) technology theme park is part of Argentina’s Tecnópolis Bicentennial Project for Science, Technology and Arts. Tecnópolis traces 200 years of history of science and technology in Argentina, and the project was launched in 2010 to commemorate the Bicentennial Year of the May Revolution of 1810.

Beggs Telephone selects ADTRAN Total Access 5000 for next-generation services migration

Beggs Telephone Company Inc., an independent, family owned service provider, has selected the Total Access 5000 Multi-Service Access and Aggregation Platform (MSAP), from ADTRAN Inc. (NASDAQ:ADTN), to migrate from legacy switches and deliver IP-based voice and data services to business and residential customers in the Oklahoma region.
