Colba.Net Inc., Quebec Internet service provider Colba.Net Telecom Inc.’s subsidiary, has deployed the MXK multi-service access node (MSAN) system from Zhone Technologies Inc., a provider of FTTx network access tools, to enable Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL2+) and Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) services for local residences and businesses.

Clearfield Inc., provider of fiber management systems for Fiber to the Premise (FTTp) deployments, is announcing CraftSmart Fiber Protection Pedestals (FPPs) and CraftSmart Fiber Protection Vaults (FPVs), optical protection systems optimized to house the FieldSmart Small Count Delivery (SCD) Case at the last mile access point of the network in above-grade or below-grade installations.

Fujitsu this week surprised the industry with the announcement that it plans to build an open access network based principally on fiber to the home (FTTH) technology in the UK. The company will partner with Cisco (NASDAQ: CSCO) on the network technology, while UK alternative service providers Virgin Media and TalkTalk have agreed to use the FTTH network, which Fujitsu says will reach as many as 5 million homes in rural parts of the UK.

EXFO Inc. (Nasdaq:EXFO) (TSX:EXF) has introduced the intelligent Optical Link Mapper (iOLM) PON test set for FTTX network characterization. The iOLM fully automates the setting of complex OTDR acquisition parameters and presents an easy-to-understand pass/fail status of the FTTH network, EXFO says. The system reduces test time by as much as 85%, the company asserts. The iOLM also enables new test technicians to get up to speed more quickly, EXFO adds.
