New World Telecom preps for 100G with Alcatel-Lucent 1830 Photonic Service Switch

Hong Kong communications service provider New World Telecom will deploy systems from Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext and NYSE:ALU) that will enable it to support 10-, 40-, and 100-Gbps traffic on the same fiber pair. Alcatel-Lucent’s 1830 Photonic Service Switch will be the lynchpin of the new 100-Gbps optical network capabilities.

Level 3 opens low-latency service between London and Frankfurt

Level 3 Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:LVLT) has opened service on a new low-latency fiber-optic route between London and Frankfurt. The new service is targeted at banks, hedge funds, brokers, and other financial services institutions who wish to execute trades with lower latency between exchanges in those cities as well as others connected to the Level 3 network, including those in Zurich, Milan, New York, and Chicago.

Transworld, TE SubCom to upgrade TW1 Middle Eastern undersea fiber-optic cable system

Pakistani private submarine fiber optic cable operator Transworld Associates (Pvt.) Ltd. and TE SubCom, a TE Connectivity, say they will upgrade the TW1 undersea cable system that connects Pakistan, the UAE, and Oman. The upgrade is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.

China Telecom to deploy Alcatel-Lucent service routers for 100-Gbps upgrade

Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext and NYSE:ALU) says that China Telecom will deploy the system house’s 7750 Service Routers and 5620 Service Aware Manager portfolio to upgrade its network to include 100-Gbps capabilities. Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell, Alcatel-Lucent’s flagship company in China, received the contract.
