Anritsu rolls out BERTWave BERT software for analysis of active optical cables, direct attach cables Anritsu Co. has announced a pair of software packages for its MP2100A BERTWave series of bit-error-rate testers (BERTs) for testing active optical cables (AOCs) and direct attach cables (DACs) in half. With the new software, the MP2100A BERTWave provides jitter decomposition analysis, S21 transmission characteristics, and waveform simulation on ACO and DAC for half the cost, Anritsu.

RED-C Optical Networks Ltd. has unveiled a variety of high-density EDFA packages for integration in ROADM line cards. It also has announced a four-pump hybrid Raman-EDFA module that it says enables dynamic path reconfiguration.

MEL, a startup founded in 2009, announced plans for a low-power, tunable DWDM SFP transceiver (TRx) that will leverage its patent-protected chirped fiber Bragg grating and its athermal structure technology. The transceiver, which MEL has dubbed MLT (for “Mechanically Locked Tunable”), will consume half the power of existing EML-based transceivers and one third of the new tunable transceivers, the company asserts.

Oclaro Inc. (NASDAQ: OCLR) says it has begun shipping its MI 5000XM 40-Gbps coherent modules in volume. Company sources also tell Lightwave that 100-Gbps versions are on track for release early next year.

Oclaro, Inc. (NASDAQ: OCLR) says it has begun sampling a pair of new high-power pump lasers. The first is a 500-mW uncooled 980-nm pump laser; the second is a 2x600-mW dual-chip pump in a single package.

Finisar Corp. (NASDAQ: FNSR) has unveiled new versions of its WaveShaper Programmable Optical Processor. The WaveShaper 1000S/X and 4000S/X offer an extended wavelength range covering both the C- and the L-Band in a single instrument. The new WaveShaper members have been designed for system testing of reconfigurable optical networks as well as for laser pulse shaping in metrology and medical systems.
