Vitesse Ships over 5 million burst-mode TIAs for FTTx

October 29, 2011

Vitesse Semiconductor Corp. says it has shipped more than five million of its VSC7716 burst-mode transimpedance amplifiers (TIAs) for EPON in FTTx applications. Infonetics Research estimates that approximately 5.7 million EPON optical line termination (OLT) ports will be shipped by 2012; therefore, the milestone is proof of Vitesse's market leadership position in burst-mode EPON TIAs, the company asserts.

PON semiconductor and software vendor BroadLight says that Deonet will supply its DI-3124 Business Gateway System to SK Broadband. The DI-3124 Business Gateway System uses BroadLight’s Helios embedded multi-core processors.

Amplifier to enable PON-based optical aggregation networks

October 29, 2011

Fujitsu Ltd. and Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. say they have developed optical amplifier technology for PONs that would quadruple the number of splits and double reach. The development would enable the use of PON technology for optical aggregation applications.

Fujitsu claims Advance in coherent DSP algorithms

October 29, 2011

Fujitsu Ltd. has detailed research that could make digital signal processing (DSP) chips for coherent detection significantly smaller, lower cost, and less power hungry. The new chip design can compensate not only for linear distortions of the optical signal like chromatic dispersion, but also for complex waveform distortion caused by nonlinear effects – something that the current generation of DSP chips does not do.

BroadLight XG-PON1 OLT, ONT Semiconductors

October 29, 2011

PON silicon and software vendor BroadLight says that it now has standards-compliant ITU-T G.987 XG-PON1 OLT and ONT devices commercially available. The company asserts it is the first to be able to make such a claim.

The new 100G link will be operational in Italy

October 28, 2011

Fastweb, one of Italy‘s largest broadband providers, is deploying the country’s first 100 Gigabit per second (100G) per channel optical fiber network between Milan and Rome. Using Nokia Siemens Networks technology, the network will be capable of simultaneously transmitting up to 40 wavelengths of light, each carrying data at 100G. This will allow a total data transfer speed of up to 4 Terabits per second.
