JDSU (NASDAQ: JDSU) (TSX: JDU) has added ITU-T Y.1564 testing to its J-Complete tool set via its new SAMComplete (Service Activation Methodology) automated testing tool for Ethernet service activation. The new capability is aimed at such applications as mobile backhaul and business Ethernet networks.

General Photonics has announced general availability for its TCA-1000 SmartLight tunable amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) source with 50-GHz channel spacing on the ITU grid. The fully polarized light source features a FWHM bandwidth of 0.3 nm. The TCA-1000 SmartLight is designed to emulate a 40-Gbps signal for polarization mode dispersion (PMD) effect tests, in-service link PMD measurement, PMD compensator evaluation, WDM channel testing, 40G system testing, and 40G optical component testing.

Tektronix Inc. likes the pairing of its real-time oscilloscopes with Optametra’s optical modulation analysis capabilities so much that it has bought the company. The acquisition puts Tektronix in direct competition with Agilent Technologies and EXFO for the supply of optical modulation analyzers used to evaluate coherent optical receivers for transmission at 40 Gbps, 100 Gbps, and higher data rates.

EXFO Inc. (Nasdaq:EXFO) (TSX:EXF) has introduced the intelligent Optical Link Mapper (iOLM) PON test set for FTTX network characterization. The iOLM fully automates the setting of complex OTDR acquisition parameters and presents an easy-to-understand pass/fail status of the FTTH network, EXFO says. The system reduces test time by as much as 85%, the company asserts. The iOLM also enables new test technicians to get up to speed more quickly, EXFO adds.
