Worldwide optical market revenues grew to over $12 billion in 2010, due to a robust market demand for DWDM systems in both metro and core applications, says market research firm Dell’Oro Group in a newly published report.

The Japanese Internet Exchange Point (IXP) and operator of the Japan Network Access Point (JPNAP), Internet Multifeed Co., have successfully conducted a 100-Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) interoperability test. The trial was carried out in conjunction with the Internet Initiative Japan (IIJ) and NTT Communications using routers, switches, and packet generators provided by Brocade (NASDAQ:BRCD) and other networking vendors.

Bandwidth services provider Zayo says it plans to expand its fiber network in Cincinnati, OH, as part of an agreement to deliver services for one of its large wholesale customers. "Several” miles of new network will be added as a result of this expansion, and Zayo will double its on-net building count in Cincinnati while bolstering route diversity.

IMC Networks has expanded its optical network demarcation media converter family with the release of the telco-powered IE-MiniFiberLinX-II. The IE-MiniFiberLinX-II NID works with -48 VDC power that is compliant with the Bellcore GR-499 specification to support the minimum and maximum transient voltages typically required by transport equipment used in telco environments.

A day after announcing KPN as a 100-Gbps customer (see “KPN International deploys Huawei’s coherent 100-Gbps WDM system”), Huawei disclosed that China Telecom also has deployed its 100-Gbps WDM technology, between metropolitan hubs Nanjing and Wuxi in the Jiangsu province of the Yangtze River Delta.
