Lightower Fiber Networks, a metro fiber network and bandwidth service provider, announced two new network expansion projects in the northern New York Metro Region. The first will add new fiber between New Haven, Conn., and Stamford, Conn.; the second expansion will add a new route between Westchester County, N.Y., and New York City.

Pacific Crossing repairs transpacific cable, restores PC-1 West route

Optical networking market on track for growth

Ovum became the third market research firm to note that the worldwide optical network (ON) equipment market dropped sequentially but grew year-on-year in the first quarter of 2011 (1Q11). The market also crawled back into the plus column on an annualized basis, Ovum reports.

Tunable XFP shipments exceed 300-pin transponders sales

JDSU (NASDAQ: JDSU) (TSX: JDU) has revealed that shipments for its first-to-market tunable XFP products surpassed 300 pin transponder shipments in its second fiscal quarter for 2011, which ended December 2010. Sales for the tunable XFP also grew more than 70 percent from the first to the second quarter for fiscal year 2011.

Infonetics: 1Q11 PON sales jump while DSL plunges

Led by a double-digit drop in DSL sales, the DSL, PON, and Ethernet FTTH equipment market declined 2% in the first quarter of 2011 (1Q11), says market research firm Infonetics Research. According to excerpts from the 1Q11 PON, FTTH, and DSL Aggregation Equipment and Subscribers preliminary vendor market share report, the aggregate revenue of these three broadband product areas totaled $1.96 billion worldwide.
