LightCounting predicts that sales of optical transceivers will exceed $3 billion in 2011, an increase of about 10%. The market research firm believes that the optical communications market will overcome near-term uncertainty and is well positioned for continued growth in 2011-2015.

The industry is well positioned for growth in 2011 through 2015 despite modest growth in sales of optical networking equipment last year, according to LightCounting’s latest forecast report.

In a new report, market research firm LightCounting says that sales of 100-Gbps DWDM line cards will grow to $2.3 billion by 2015. Meanwhile, an emerging market for 40-Gigabit Ethernet and 100-Gigabit Ethernet client-side optical transceiver modules will grow to $380 million by 2015 as well.

LightCounting’s newly released report. “State of the Optical Communications Industry: On a Path to Sustainable Profitability,” contains both good news and bad news for the optical communications industry. The good news is that optical communications technology vendors improved their financial footing between 2007 and 2010. The bad news is that their primary customers -- mainline communications service providers -- have not.

Multiplex Inc. has introduced CWDM and DWDM XFP optical transceiver modules for industrial temperature applications. The XFP transceivers operate within a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C with wavelength stability to +/-12.5 GHz for 100-GHz systems.
