Discovery Semiconductor is touting the use of its Highly Linear Photodiode (HLPD) technology to create optoelectronic clocks with low phase noise. Such clocks could enable ultra-fast analog-to-digital converters, among other advances, according to sources at the company.

Google spent much of 2010 beating the drums for an alternative to the IEEE’s 100-Gigabit Ethernet (100GbE) 100GBase-LR4 specifications. JGR Optics Inc. has released the MS12001 Mandrel-Free Cable Assembly Test System. The system includes the MS12 Mandrel-Free IL/RL Test Module Series, designed to provide accurate insertion loss and reflectance measurements with enough sensitivity to enable mandrel-free reflectance measurements down to -80 dB on cable lengths as short as 1 meter. The test and measurement system also includes the MS7 Series of modular optical switches and a new family of modular platforms, the MS05P, MS10P, and MS10E.
