Power-efficient 10G TOSA for DWDM SFP+ transceivers

September 15, 2011

CyOptics Inc., maker of Indium Phosphide (InP) optical chip and component technologies, announced a new series of 10 Gbps transmit optical subassemblies (TOSAs) for the emerging DWDM SFP+ transceiver market.

SoC for 40-Gbps DP-QPSK coherent designs

September 15, 2011

PMC-Sierra has taken the first major step towards evolving designs leveraging dual-polarization quadrature phase-shift keying (DP-QPSK) with coherent detection away from discrete electronic elements towards off-the-shelf system on a chip (SoC) devices. The company’s new PM6373 POLO 40G integrates SerDes, digital signal processing (DSP), analog-to-digital converter (ADC), OTN framing, and Forward Error Correction (FEC) functions for use in 40-Gbps designs. The obvious question, of course, is when PMC-Sierra plans to tackle 100 Gbps.

VI Systems demo 25 Gbps over plastic optical fiber

September 15, 2011

VI Systems GmbH says that researchers at The Georgia Institute of Technology have demonstrated 25-Gbps error-free data transmission over 100 m of 80 μm-diameter core plastic optical fiber (POF) using one of VI Systems’ V40-850C 850-nm vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs).

Anritsu introduces high-frequency oscilloscope probe

September 14, 2011

EMCORE’s XFP transceiver in production

September 14, 2011

EMCORE Corp. (NASDAQ:EMKR) has announced production release of its tunable XFP transceiver after the device achieved Telcordia qualification. EMCORE’s task now is to narrow the gap JDSU has opened in the race to market share.

86100D digital communications analyzer singlemode, multimode receiver bandwidth

September 14, 2011

Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE:A) has enhanced the ability of the Agilent 86100D digital communications analyzer (DCA) to perform optical transmitter compliance testing. Leveraging a new approach called system impulse response correction (SIRC), the instrument can now accommodate multimode optical receivers with bandwidths in excess of 25 GHz and singlemode receivers with near 100-GHz bandwidths.
