Xelerated says it has begun volume production of its HX family of 100-Gbps network processors (NPUs) for packet-OTN, mobile backhaul/PTN, and Carrier Ethernet switch-routers. The company says it has 20 design wins for the HX family of NPUs, with the first systems using the devices entering production later this year.

At this week’s ECOC conference in Geneva, JDSU (NASDAQ: JDSU) (TSX: JDU) demonstrated quad small form factor pluggable plus (QSFP+) optical transceiver modules for 40-Gbps transmission up to 10 km. The devices are targeted at enterprise, local area (LAN), and storage area networks (SAN).

PON semiconductor and software vendor BroadLight says that Deonet will supply its DI-3124 Business Gateway System to SK Broadband. The DI-3124 Business Gateway System uses BroadLight’s Helios embedded multi-core processors.

Fujitsu Ltd. and Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. say they have developed optical amplifier technology for PONs that would quadruple the number of splits and double reach. The development would enable the use of PON technology for optical aggregation applications.
