For a high optical quality fiber ends, or further need of coating on surfaces, or of accurate mounting for precision alignment for collimating applications, a practical solution is to glue the bare fiber to the core of a glass capillary. This provides a method of easy handling, resulting in a better finish.
To make the fiber pigtail, the bare fiber is glued to the core of a glass ferrule. The output side of the glass ferrule is usually coated with anti-reflection (AR) coating and is polished to an angle to achieve ultra-high return loss. With an 8° angle polished pigtail fiber, the return loss is more than 65dB. Larger wedge angle will give a higher return loss.
LFO provides a series of high quality single and dual fiber pigtails with competitive price. These include single fiber pigtail for Fiber Collimators, Optical Isolators, optical switches, Fiber circulators, and dual fiber Pigtail for WDM module, hybrid isolators, compact fiber circulators, etc. The standard fiber pigtail are of 8° angled with AR-coating at 1550nm, 1310nm or both wavelengths. Customized fiber pigtails (fiber tips) with different wedges, coating, and ferrule length are available upon request.
