How to Use a Field Strength Meter

How to Use a Field Strength Meter Place the field strength meter in a horizontal position and turn it on to maximum sensitivity level. Different models have a different way of indicating the maximum level, so make sure you have turned your field strength meter to its maximum sensitivity.

Connect the field signal  Optical Power  meter to the antenna you want to check or adjust. Use a coaxial cable and put one end in the input slot in the field strength meter and the other end directly into the antenna.

Position the antenna in that specific area you wish to test and measure the signal strength. Depending on your model, you may need to plug the antenna into a power source.

Check if the field signal meter is still turned on and set on maximum sensitivity.

Select an option depending on what you want to measure and check. You can set the field strength meter to check the strength of a certain channel. You can also choose a multichannel testing option, which will allow you to test the strength of all channels at the same time.

Read the results on the display of your field strength Optical Power  meter. Note that a higher result means a stronger signal.

Change locations of the antenna until you determine the optimal location, with the maximum signal strength. Check the display of the field strength meter to determine the highest number.
