How Fiberoptic lighting works

Fiberoptic lighting is a form of lighting used on swimming pools and spas. Because electricity isn’t sent directly to the pool, many believe it’s safer than standard lighting.

Power is sent to a main light source, called a light box or light tower, that is removed from the pool or spa. From a bulb in the light box, the illumination moves down dozens or even hundreds of fiberoptic strands – depending on how much light is needed -- bundled together into cables. The cables can run around the pool, spa or waterfeature to create perimeter lighting, or they can just terminate in one spot in the pool, spa or waterfeature wall to create a single in-pool light similar to traditional versions.
