Telekom Austria brings FTTH to Vienna
Approximately 90,000 households in the two districts will now be served via Telekom Austria’s high-speed GigaNet network. Telekom Austria expects to connect approximately 2.1 million households and commercial businesses across the country to its GigaNet service by the end of the year.
The Telekom Austria Group says it has “successfully finalized” the roll out of fiber-optic infrastructure in the 15th and 19th Vienna districts as part of its fiber pilot project. The pilot project will use both fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) and fiber-to-the-curb (FTTC) topologies.“Multimedia services are considerably driving broadband demand – this is why we have launched our GigaNet initiative. The rollout of a full-coverage fiber-optic network in the 15th and 19th Vienna districts marks a further important milestone in Austria’s digital capabilities. With fiber-to-the-home solutions, we can reach vastly improved transmission speeds going forward. The services that might push this network infrastructure to its limits have not been invented yet,” said Hannes Ametsreiter, CEO of the Telekom Austria Group.
