Maxis, Alcatel-Lucent bring 100 Gbps to Malaysia

Maxis Berhad, an integrated communications service provider in Malaysia, has deployed coherent 100-Gbps technology from Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext and NYSE:ALU) in its core optical backbone network. Maxis will leverage the upgraded capabilities to support both fixed and mobile Internet service, business services, cloud computing, and machine-to-machine communications.

The fiber-optic network is the first commercial deployment of 100-Gbps single-carrier DP-QPSK technology in Asia-Pacific, Alcatel-Lucent asserts.

Maxis’s fiber-optic network includes more than 10,000 km of fiber infrastructure within Peninsular Malaysia. The infrastructure construction included fiber sharing and swapping and has a fiber to the premises (FTTP) component.

In addition to the high data rates, Alcatel-Lucent’s 100G coherent optical network equipment will offer faster service provision and shorten time to market for new services, the systems house asserts.
