Evansville-based Cinergy MetroNet plans to invest $20 million this year to install fiber optic, or hair-thin strands of glass that can quickly send large amounts of data. The company plans to install new lines through Franklin, Whiteland and New Whiteland.
Cinergy MetroNet also has gotten licenses that would let it expand its phone, Internet and cable service to Bargersville and Trafalgar in the future, company president Steve Biggerstaff said. The company plans to eventually expand in Johnson County after installing line and opening a store in Franklin.
The Franklin Economic Development Commission voted unanimously Tuesday to recommend that the utility get a tax incentive.
