LAFAYETTE, LA - On April 23, 2012,as part of INNOV8 Lafayette, LUS Fiber, the Lafayette Parish School System and St. Thomas More Catholic High School will hold Fiber for Breakfast: Fueling Education, an exciting event that will showcase ways Lafayette schools are currently utilizing technology to provide new experiences to elementary and high school students. The innovative examples presented will highlight what is possible when a community has access to this type of broadband infrastructure.
"This is a great opportunity to show the community that the true benefits of a pure fiber network are being realized now in our local schools," says Terry Huval, Director of LUS Fiber. "The Lafayette Parish School System and St. Thomas More have truly begun to think of expanding the classroom so that students can learn, collaborate and share information and not have to be confined to the same physical space," he continues. "And the innovative programs to be presented at Fiber for Breakfast are only the beginning. The possibilities are endless, which is yet another reason why the LUS Fiber initiative is so important to Lafayette."
Fiber-To-The-Home or Business (FTTH) networks are a very efficient way to deliver vastly higher bandwidth to consumers and businesses. LUS Fiber is Lafayette's only community-owned 100% fiber optic network and provides service to the Lafayette Parish School System's (LPSS) main office and as well as all schools in the parish. This provides every school with an opportunity to create new, innovative environments for students throughout Lafayette and gives them an advantage over other schools in the United States that do not have access to this type of bandwidth.
Fiber for Breakfast: Fueling Education will be held at the LITE Center located at 537 Cajundome Blvd. Breakfast will be served at 7:30 am and the presentation will begin at 8:00 am. Admission is free and open to anyone interested in learning about current, pioneering programs offered to students in our community. Parents, teachers, school administrators, civic leaders and anyone with a vested interest in the future of our children should attend. Space is limited.
Fiber for Breakfast: Fueling Education is part of INNOV8, a project of the Innovation Division of the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce. It is an eight-day festival of creativity and innovation held throughout Lafayette, Louisiana from Sunday April 22 to Sunday April 29, 2012, which is the week leading up to and overlapping Festival International.
INNOV8 will focus on digital interactive technology... arts and music...and entrepreneurship.
