Business broadband rolled out to 8,800 premises in Wiltshire

A further 8,800 premises in Wiltshire have been connected to faster broadband links, telecommunications firm BT has announced.

Buildings in Hawthorn, Wilton and Downton have been linked to the technology, Wiltshire Business noted, before adding they will now receive speeds of up to 20 Mbps.

Homes and companies are among those to benefit from the roll-out, which has already seen 20 other communities boosted with the same infrastructure. Improved business broadband can aid local firms as they compete in an increasingly online world.

BT is investing money in the UK's copper network at the same time as it is making significant advances with its fibre-optic solutions that will be deployed in many areas.

Earlier this week, BT confirmed it has chosen Deddington in Oxfordshire as its first fibre-only community. It will transform the village as part of a pilot scheme to test the technology.

In the next 12 months, about 77 per cent of homes and businesses in the south-west are expected to be able to enjoy speeds of about 20 Mbps.
