Alcatel-Lucent 1830 Photonic Service Switch

Hong Kong communications service provider New World Telecom will deploy systems from Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext and NYSE:ALU) that will enable it to support 10-, 40-, and 100-Gbps traffic on the same fiber pair. Alcatel-Lucent’s 1830 Photonic Service Switch will be the lynchpin of the new 100-Gbps optical network capabilities.

New World Telecom offers a variety of international voice and data services to its customers in Hong Kong and overseas through its own network as well as via bilateral partnerships with more than 300 global incumbents and major carriers.

Says Johnny Cheung, executive vice president, networks and IT at New World Telecom, “Alcatel-Lucent will help expand the capacity, performance, and flexibility of our network to address the rapid growth in demand for high-speed data transmission, especially suitable for telecommunications, banking and finance, as well as media industries in Hong Kong.”

Rajeev Singh-Molares, President of Alcatel-Lucent’s activities in the Asia-Pacific Region, adds, “Demand for every kind of data service is exploding in the Asia-Pacific region, and New World Telecom is moving quickly to capitalize on this demand. By upgrading their optical network to support very high speeds, they have taken a bold step to ensure that customers in Hong Kong can take advantage of one of the world’s most sophisticated and powerful optical networks.”
