Rio networks selects ADTRAN for network replacement

Rio Networks, a CLEC in central Oregon, has chosen ADTRAN, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADTN) to supply transport and customer premises equipment (CPE) for a complete network upgrade, says ADTRAN. Rio has selected equipment from both ADTRAN’s broadband and enterprise network portfolios to improve delivery of business and residential services.

The facilities-based CLEC serves most of the major Oregon markets including Portland, Salem, Eugene, Roseburg, Grants Pass, Medford, and Bend. Rio’s new transport network will be based on ADTRAN’s flagship product, the Total Access 5000 Multi-Service Access and Aggregation Platform. From this platform, Rio will be able to deploy high-speed data, voice, and Ethernet business services.

ADTRAN’s NetVanta family of CPE, including the NetVanta 7100 IP Communications platform, will complement the Total Access 5000. The CPE will support delivery of such services as SIP trunking and hosted voice over IP (VoIP).

“We have had a longstanding relationship with ADTRAN and have seen up close the broad array of innovative solutions they have brought to market. ADTRAN’s products have positioned Rio Networks to redefine the CLEC industry. QoS is now a prerequisite in delivering quality next-generation hosted and cloud services to our customers; ADTRAN proved to do this the best,” said Mark Bilton-Smith, president, Rio Networks.
