Horizon Telcom announced Wednesday the purchase of Fibre Optic One, Inc. and Cable TV Investments-One, Inc., along with 110 miles of fiber optic network in southern Ohio.
Horizon will assume Fibre One's existing dark fiber business relationships with a number of key southern Ohio businesses. Horizon's goal in combining the networks is to increase broadband deployment and availability to institutional and commercial users that are located primarily within the Appalachian areas of Ohio.
Horizon will utilize the network to compliment its own state-of-the-art fiber optic system currently being constructed in many counties of southern Ohio.
In addition to serving the communities of Chillicothe, Jackson, Waverly, Circleville, Greenfield and Darbyville, Horizon will provide advanced data services to businesses in Portsmouth, Piketon, Wheelersburg, Lucasville, Minford, South Webster, Beaver, Otway and Rarden. Horizon will also manage the cable system serving customers in Rarden, Otway, and nearby rural areas in Scioto and Pike counties.
'This acquisition extends our ability to provide the latest technology to businesses in southern Ohio,' said Bill McKell, Horizon CEO. 'Southern Ohio companies need reliable broadband access to stay competitive in today's market and Horizon's advanced fiber optic network is uniquely designed to meet those expectations.'
