UK - Fujikura Europe Ltd. has recently announced the launch of a field assembly connector capable of terminating 2-3mm diameter cord. The connector is the latest addition to the Fujikura portfolio of FAST optical connectors, and is targeted at engineers undertaking terminations in apartment blocks, offering an alternative to pre-terminated fiber.
The LC and SC type Cord connector facilitates cable management in high density patch panels by eliminating the need to accommodate space for excess cable. The connector retains the capability to terminate to both 0.25mm and 0.9mm buffered fiber.
"Space constraints are a major concern for engineers planning installation of fiber into existing, 'brownfield' sites," advises Fujikura product manager, Brian Leonard. "Pre-terminated patch cords are suitable for new-build, 'greenfield' sites but the space required for the unavoidable excess cable presents significant problems when working in an area designed just to house copper cabling.
"With this addition to our FAST connector series we are continuing to meet the needs of engineers managing fibre delivery, and continuing to innovate our products to help make FTTH a cost-effective reality for service providers throughout Europe," concluded Leonard.
The FAST (Field Assembly with Simple Technique) series connectors are now available in SC, ST and LC variants, catering for 250um to 900um diameter singlemode and multimode fibre types, including Multi-mode 62.5/125um and Multi-mode 50/125um. The connectors are also now 10G fibre/OM3 compliant, supporting 10G Multi-mode 50/125, meeting demand for high performance connectors from multimode LAN (Local Area Network) applications
