Draka opens FTTH Network Engineering Services consultancy

Draka Communications has launched Draka Network Engineering Services, which it asserts is a technology-independent FTTH consulting services operation. It is available to work with communities, local authorities, and other organizations planning or constructing passive fiber network infrastructures and can assist with initial infrastructure assessments, including calculations on labor and material costs that help to build a convincing business case.

Draka Network Engineering Services’ methodology uses digital area (GIS) maps and digital maps of existing infrastructures as input to its dedicated software technology. Following a local site survey, Draka says it will optimize FTTH network design to reduce construction time, improve efficiency, and deliver the best return on investment.

“The decision to open up our knowledge and expertise presents more choice for the diversity of FTTH communities engaging in their own construction, “ explains Edgar Aker, director marketing & product management, Draka Communications Telecom Solutions. “ Draka Network Engineering Services is both vendor and technology neutral, using our expertise to design an FTTH network that fits customer needs, whether or not our own cables, components, or connectivity components are part of the solution.”

Each FTTH network project is is unique, according to Draka; its characteristics depend on such factors as geography, the history of the market, national and local regulation, and more. Many of the variables involved are interconnected; improve one variable and you may compromise another, in Draka’s estimation. The company says it can help navigate these waters through its in-depth understanding of the key considerations, best practices in making smart technology choices, and mixing standard cabling products and proven experience with real-world fiber installations.
