LS Cable (Chairman & CEO Christopher Koo) announced on the 10th that the build-out of an open access network for Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, will be completed by the end of December of this year.
An open access network is an advanced communication network that enables communication companies to scale network capacity to the requirements of each market. Such a network provides smooth handling of prodigious amounts of data so that end users may enjoy a large diversity of Internet multi-media content delivered at high-speed without interruption. The concept was pioneered in the U.S. just a few years ago. LS Cable is the first in Korea to receive an order for such an open access network project to be built abroad.
How to handle huge amounts of data, especially for video streaming, is currently one of the key issues facing the global IT industry. LS Cable, through this order, has secured an advantageous position for entry into global communications markets in Europe, Australia and New Zealand, etc., in which open access networks will be expanded in the future.
LS Cable will be responsible for supplying the optical line terminals, the GPON transmission equipment (see Terminology below), as well as optical network units, optical cables and connectors, etc.
LS Cable modularized optical line terminal parts and expanded signal transmission range in capacity from 20km to as much as 60km and therefore minimized facility investment costs of the client’s communication service provider. In addition, LS Cable will supply a total solution, including FTTH (fiber to the home), FTTB (fiber to the building) and FTTC (fiber to the curb: optical cable network deployed in a densely populated area), and will assist the client in implementing an efficient optical communication network contending with diverse environments.
