Broadband coming to Morgan County school & libraries

Construction to put lines in for the EAGLE-Net Alliance will begin soon.

This is a project to connect Fort Morgan and Brush schools and libraries and Morgan Community College to high-speed Internet service.

Morgan County Administrative Services Manager Susan Bailey said EAGLE-Net was anxious to begin as soon as possible -- as soon as the Morgan County Board of Commissioners approved the construction permit.

The board did that at its Tuesday meeting.

This project was made possible through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act stimulus funding, Bailey said.

She said that the purpose of the EAGLE-Net program is to offer broadband services to underserved schools.

EAGLE-Net's Web site says the projects are meant to build a sustainable network to better connect education, libraries, government and health care facilities in Colorado.

Work will begin laying fiber optic cables at Morgan County Road 19, south of MCR I. It will run east and west at MCR Q. The west leg will run up Main Street in Fort Morgan to connect with the Fort Morgan Museum and Library. The east leg will run to the west side of Brush and on to connect with the East Morgan County Library and the Brush School District administration building.

"I think it's a good project," said Morgan County Commissioner Laura Teague, adding that it is important to connect schools to good Internet access.
