Frontier Communications Spokesperson Patricia Amendola said the outage occurred when a tree fell on a fiber-optic line in Oaktown, Ind., belonging to one of the company’s underlying carriers.
The first report of an internet outage came at around 9 a.m., she said. She said approximately 12,000 Frontier customers in the Southeastern Illinois area were affected. She said phone service was not down during the outage.
Other communications companies were also affected, Amendola said, including NewWave Communications.
