CityFibre, Fujitsu partner to roll out fibre broadband in UK

Fujitsu will undertake key planning, building and operation responsibilities.

Fibre optic infrastructure firm CityFibre has signed an engineering agreement with Fujitsu worth £50m to help CityFibre roll out super-fast broadband infrastructure in UK cities.

The new agreement, Fujitsu will be responsible for planning, building and operating CityFibre's carrier-grade next-generation fibre infrastructure.

CityFibre selected Fujitsu based on its experience of building carrier-grade networks worldwide and for its field force spanning the whole of the UK.

CityFibre CEO Greg Mesch said the company intends to roll out fibre infrastructure to in excess of a million UK homes, and 50,000 businesses across the country.

"Fujitsu's credentials in network deployment could not be stronger and few companies have as much knowledge of UK telecoms infrastructure. They are uniquely positioned to assist CityFibre in meeting our ambitious objectives across the entire fibre infrastructure spectrum, from mobile backhaul to metro networks and Fibre-to-the Premises," said Mesch.

Fujitsu has already worked with CityFibre to build 103km fibre optic network around the city of York.
