Tunisian business team explores chances at Rusayl Estate

MUSCAT — With the aim of reinforcing bilateral ties between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Tunisia, a business delegation from the Tunisian Sfax Chamber of Commerce and Industry visited Rusayl Industrial Estate yesterday to get acquainted with the promising investment opportunities in Oman.

The Tunisian delegates represent major institutions and companies operating in various areas in Tunisia including: food, textile, solar power, aluminium industry, pharmaceutical industry, machinery and medical cosmetics, industrial inspection, setting up and maintenance of parks and spaces, tourism and real estate, refreshments, leather and footwear industry, chemical and oil services, agriculture, plastic, media, building materials, auto parts, construction and architecture, computer services and Internet.

The visit aspired to strengthen ties of co-operation and partnership between the two countries, promote investment opportunities, and discuss the possibility of setting up joint ventures. During the visit, the delegation was briefed about PEIE in general and Rusayl Industrial Estate in particular through tracking the development stages it went through since 1983. A wide range of industries exist in Rusayl Industrial Estate, including chemicals, batteries, electrical and building materials, fibre optic cables, foodstuff, textiles, garments to stationery and paints.


Officials at Rusayl Industrial Estate highlighted the policies adopted by the Government of Oman to attract and support foreign investments. The officials also underlined the investment potentials and the scores of incentives provided to investors in the various industrial estates in Oman, which fall under the umbrella of the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE).

The Tunisian delegation familiarised itself with the industrial areas in the Sultanate which are operated by PEIE and the vital role it plays in availing offers for tenants from all parts of the world. The delegates were also introduced to the facilities provided to local and foreign investors, and the main services and facilities offered by the Knowledge Oasis Muscat (KOM) for the companies operating in the ICT sector, and the institutions functioning within KOM.

The Tunisian delegates also had field visits to Oman Cables Industry SAOG and Oman Fiber Optic Co SAOG. The officials briefed the delegates the history of the two companies. Oman Cables Industry SAOG is a leading manufacturer and exporter of Medium Voltage, Low Voltage Electric Cables, Building Wires, Instrumentation Cables and Overhead Transmission Line conductors in the Middle East.

Oman Fiber Optic Co SAOG was constituted in 1995 and commenced cable production in early 1999. OFO uses advanced technology to draw fibre and manufacture world class fibre cable products. OFO manufactures cables for long haul backbone communication links, LAN networks, video transmission and Cable TV, traffic signaling, FTTH solutions, security systems, defence and specialty applications.
