Chapleau goes faster. Fibre optic fast

"Fibre to the Home" service launched in Chapleau

It may only be a small town of 2,900 people in Northern Ontario, but as of this week, residents of Chapleau, Ontario, are getting some of the fastest fibre-optic telecomm service in Canada.

On Tuesday, May 1, Vianet, a Northern Ontario based telecommunications company, launched their new Fibre to the Home (FTTH) network in Chapleau, about 190 kilometres northeast of Sault Ste. Marie.

This next generation network will give people in Chapleau High Definition TV, super-fast Internet and reliable, affordable telephone services - better service than many people get in large centres like Toronto and Vancouver.

Dan Regaudie, Vianet's Director of Broadcast Services, says the company is expanding its FTTH services in other larger centres as well. Chapleau was just the first to be completed simply given its smaller community size.

"This service will provide the residents of Chapleau some of the overall fastest Internet speeds in Canada today. There are very few communities in Canada that can boast a similar next generation network," says Regaudie, "Going to an all-Fibre network gives us unlimited capabilities, higher quality and excellent reliability. We're very proud of this achievement."

Vianet, meantime, is providing Fibre Optic services to many businesses and some homes in Sudbury and continues to invest in infrastructure to wire the entire city. The feedback from initial customers has been excellent with expansion ongoing.

"After 25 years in business, 18 of those as an Internet Service Provider, Vianet continues to innovate," adds Regaudie. "For example, we were one of the first Independent Internet Service Providers in Canada to provide Internet through cable modems. Now it's Fibre Optic services to the Home at prices that are lower than most of our competitors providing slower speeds."

Vianet is an independent telecommunications carrier based in Sudbury, Ontario.

It provides locally staffed customer support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
