Lumos Networks announces new product

Waynesboro-based Lumos Networks has introduced Colocation, the first product in its data center services portfolio.

Company officials said Colocation services will provide a secure environment for customers’ servers and data storage, enabling them to reduce risks such as security breaches, fire and flood.

Craig M. Drinkhall , the company’s vice president of product management and engineering, said Colocation services are designed to meet growing customer needs in the areas of data center services and cloud computing.

“We are expanding services to complement the data products our customers are demanding, such as Metro-Ethernet, MPLS, and dedicated Internet services,” Drinkhall said.

Lumos became a separate, publicly traded company last October after being spun off from Waynesboro-based nTelos, a wireless phone service provider.

Lumos, a fiber-optic network service provider, offers data, broadband, voice and IP services. Its 5,800-mile fiber network serves Virginia and West Virginia, as well as parts of Kentucky, Maryland, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
