MS3 starts Hull fibre broadband network rollout

MS3 Communications has begun rolling out the first super-fast broadband network in Hull to be completely separate from incumbent telecoms firm KC's infrastructure.

The network operator contracted Welch Civils to begin installing the first 50km of fibre optic cables across the city in a £5.5 million deal, with the work starting on Monday (April 2nd 2012) and expected to last for between 20 and 26 weeks.

Once the work is finished, MS3's next-generation broadband infrastructure will serve the HU1, HU3, HU4 and HU13 postcode areas of Hull.

Tony Hales, managing director of MS3, said the network will allow local businesses to take advantage of Ethernet services that have not been available in the city before.

"We have always promised that we would deliver this network to Hull and it's great credit to the hard work and endeavour of everyone at MS3 that we are finally able to begin digging," he added.

As part of its plan to deliver next-generation communications services to Hull, the company signed an agreement with the Humber Bridge Board, giving it permission to lay fibre optic cables across the structure from its network partners on the south bank.
