PacketLight unveils multiprotocol OTN transponder

Metro equipment vendor PacketLight Networks Ltd. has introduced the PL-1000TN, a compact optical transport device containing six independent, standards-based multi-rate optical 8G/10G OTU2 transponders. This highly integrated device provides Optical Transport Network (OTN) capabilities with transport capacity of 60 Gbps in a compact 1U platform.

The company says the PL-1000TN is ideal for transporting different protocols such as 10G LAN/WAN, STM64/OC-192 and 8G/10G Fibre Channel over a common optical transport layer. As a result, the device can address multiple applications including edge-based customer devices for end-to-end 8G/10G managed services, as a multi-rate OTN transponder in ROADM-based networks, and for transporting a mix of 8G/10G clients over long-distance optical networks.

“The PL-1000TN is designed to meet the growing demands of high data capacity transport over long-distance fiber networks. Built for low power consumption, rack space savings, high integration and rich feature set, PL-1000TN is the market leader for delivering cost effective, flexible optical fiber network infrastructure for numerous bandwidth-demanding applications,” said Koby Reshef, PacketLight’s vice-president of marketing.

The PL-1000TN 1U device also supports up to two integrated optical amplifiers and mux/demux providing the smallest integrated transport solution of its kind, the company claims.
