Before we do the fiber optic splicing, we need to do the fiber end preparation work. This step includes stripping of the optical fiber cable jacket , stripping the buffer tube and fiber coating and some necessary fiber cleaning process. To do these fiber optic splicing steps, we need some tools include Fiber Optic Stripper CFS-2, Fiber Optic Cleaver and fiber optic tools.
After the end preparation we can do the splicing work. There are generally two types of fiber optic splicing, mechanical splicing and fusion splicing. Fiber Optic Mechanical Splice is used for a quick repair and when only a small number of splices are required, its average cost for a single fiber optic splicing is high. Splicing with Fiber Optic Fusion Splicer connects a fiber without any gap thus this fiber optic splicing result in the least insertion loss. The equipment to perform fusion splicing, that is the fusion splicer, is commercially available with a wide range of models. When doing fusion fiber optic splicing, usually people need Fiber Splice Protection Sleeves to protect the fiber splices after the work is done.
