EPOXY AND POLISH
The Epoxy and Polish style connectors represent the largest segment of connectors in both numbers being used as well as the number of styles available. These were the original connectors used in fiber optics. The styles include ST, SC, FC, LC, D4, SMA, MU AND MTRJ. The biggest advantage is that this style of connector accepts the widest assortment of cable jacket diameters. Most of the connectors noted above will fit onto 900um-buffered fiber, and up to 3.
0mm jacketed fiber. There are versions available that will hold from 1 to 24 fibers in a single connector. These connectors are known to withstand the greatest environmental and mechanical stress as compared to other connector technologies. While these connectors are not difficult to install, they do require supervised straining, especially for polishing. These are best suited for high-volume installations or at an assembly house with a trained workforce. Also, while contemplating cost, these may be the least expensive of connectors to buy, but you must also figure in the labor cost for the time taken for a technician to do epoxy curing and of the ferrule polishing equipment as well as their associated consumables.
